Celebrate with us to welcome the start of New Zealand's inaugural Wellington Polish Film Festival 2016 with an Opening Night Gala Screening of the thriller 11 Minutes by Poland's multi-award winning Director and Lifetime Achievement Award-Winner Jerzy Skolimowski.
All ticket holders to the film will be invited to attend the opening night cocktail event before the 7.45pm screening. The ticket includes a glass of complimentary wine from local Martinborough winery The Elder, brought to you by Wellington's newest wine bar Noble Rot, together with a taste of Polish appetizers from New Zealand's first Polish restaurant, Plimmerton based, Topor.
11 Minutes tells the story of the intertwined lives of several Varsovians who in the space of 11 minutes, discover the impossibility of escaping one’s fate.
A jealous husband out of control, his sexy actress wife, a sleazy Hollywood director, a reckless drug messenger, a disoriented young woman, an ex-con hot dog vendor, a troubled student on a mysterious mission, a high-rise window cleaner on an illicit break, an elderly sketch artist, a hectic paramedics team and a group of hungry nuns. A cross-section of contemporary urbanites whose lives and loves intertwine. They live in an unsure world where anything could happen at any time. An unexpected chain of events can seal many fates in a mere 1 1 minutes.

Considered as one of the leaders of of the European New Wave of filmmaking in the 1960s, Jerzy Skolimowski has made 17 films in his 50 year career. New Zealander's last saw Skolimowski’s work in his award winning film Four Nights with Anna at the NZFF in 2009 and it is an honour and a privilege for the Wellington Polish Film Festival to bring Jerzy Skolimowski’s latest work to film audiences in New Zealand.
“Jerzy Skolimowski is one of the most representative exponents of the modern cinema born during the nouvelles vagues of the 1960s. He and Roman Polanski are the two filmmakers who contributed most to the renewal of Polish cinema during that same period.” Polanski himself (who called him in to write the screenplay of his debut movie, Knife in the Water) predicted: “Skolimowski will stand head and shoulders above his generation.”
