WPFF 2017

The second edition of the Wellington Polish Film Festival – WPFF 2017, screened from the 3rd to the 12th of November 2017. We were thrilled to enjoy our new home for the Wellington Polish Film Festival – the award-winning Roxy Cinema in the heart of New Zealand’s movie-making capital Miramar, Wellington.

We were pleased to announce honorary patron for 2017, Jacek Bromski, Chairman of the Polish Filmmakers Association, an organisation representing Polish filmmakers throughout Poland and WPFF's new Principal Partner.

2017 presented another year of exciting, contemporary, award winning and seldom-seen work from renowned and up and coming Polish filmmakers. Highlights of the festival was the New Zealand premiere of Agnieszka Holland's Berlinale Silver Bear-awarded film 'Spoor' ('Pokot') and the screening of Polish cinema great Andrzej Wajda's last film, 'Afterimage' ('Powidoki').

Three Polish filmmakers were hosted by the Wellington Polish Film Festival, and audiences were treated to Q & A sessions: Kuba Czekaj, Director of 'The Erlprince' ('Królewicz olch'); Aneta Hickinbotham, Producer of 'The Last Family' ('Ostatnia Rodzina'); and Studio Munka representative, Anna Kot who introduced a special programme of five short films from the prolific Munk Studio.

WPFF also hosted a Polish Industry Symposium with a free panel discussion for New Zealand filmmakers and industry, sharing ideas on filmmaking trends in Europe including co-productions, as well as financing and territorial arrangements. Supported by the New Zealand Film Commission, SPADA and Screen Wellington, the Polish Filmmakers Association and the Polish Film Institute, the event provided insight into Polish filmmaking for established and aspiring New Zealand filmmakers.
